Brothers, Sisters And Guitar Lessons Posted By Anu

Brothers, Sisters And Guitar Lessons
About a number of years ago, I got married.  And like all to be brides, I was ecstatic and completely in love (still am) with my, then fiancee, I have a few memorable moments that are forever etched in my heart.  One of them is my little brother, who had his own band, as I’m sure all teenage boys wish to, and he played the song to which my husband and I had our first dance to.  That was his first gig, as a musician.  Today, as a hobby, he still performs at weddings, other people’s, and gets paid for doing what he loves to do, play music. Every time I hear “our song”, I not only remember the dance with my husband and the feelings going thru me at that moment, but I also remember my little brother.  It brings tears of joy to my eyes, even today.  The confidence he displayed and the courage to play for us in front of all those people, was awe inspiring.

Ever since he was born, he displayed an aptitude for quickly picking up anything he was taught, like all children. But sadly, the reality is that so many parents often push their children towards being successful thru academics and kill this innate natural ability to learn.  We were fortunate that our parents didn’t push academics on us, but rather encouraged us to explore other areas that interested us as well.  By having been exposed to a number of different hobbies, my brother developed faster than his peers and displayed compassion and understanding towards others, even at such a young age.  His love for music began in his teenage years and as all boys do, he gravitated towards the guitar.  He took guitar classes at a local school in our neighborhood and discovered his passion for music.  The entrance of music in his life, completely changed him and his life path.

We often hear, about how music helps build a child’s learning capacity, proper brain development of both the left and right side.  But how many parents, allow their children to pursue something that inspires them?  So many parents, just focus on academics, as if our life is all logic and no emotions.  We are human beings and more importantly emotional human beings.  We feel deeply and it is our feelings that often lead us to the decisions we take in life.

By pursuing music, not only will you be able to logically reason better, but your emotional centre will be more grounded.  Take my brother, for example, he feels deeply and passionately about things, but you will never see his emotions get the better of him.  That doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel.  He is simply aware of his feelings and so he is able to see clearly past them and do the thing that he feels is right.  He has had many different jobs in many different fields, but one thing he is sure of in his life, is that without his guitar, his music, he cannot exist. By having the freedom to pursue his passions and his interests, he has become the kindest, most understanding of others, compassionate and has turned into a confident successful man, both career wise and personally.  Today, he is an ayurvedic doctor, but his guitar is still with him, as is his music.  How did he become the man he is today?  He was free to explore everything the world had to offer and found himself in music.
